WHAT’S G:OING ON?

Mobility and the G:

Please find below some hints to ease the way when travelling with mobility concerns, mobility scooters, wheel chairs, prams or walkers.

  • The second and second-last carriages of every tram have larger seating areas to accommodate motorised wheelchairs, prams and walkers. The position of the carriages are highlighted on the station platforms by the presence of blue squares. If you will require assistance to board the tram (for example the use of a ramp) please wait at the first blue square in direction of travel. This blue square can also be identified as the correct option, as the square is labelled as, “Assisted Boarding.

  • If staff are available, please let them know that the ramp is required. This way they can provide assistance quickly and seamlessly
  • Most stations will be staffed during peak travel times. Should there be no staff available, the driver will provide the assistance ramp.
  • Our trams and platforms were constructed to provide accessibility and seamless movement from station to tram. If you do require any assistance, do not hesitate to contact a staff member on the platform, or press the information point that can be found on every platform.

Please note that the maximum weight of our assistance ramps is 300kg.

  • On the outside of the tram doors, of our second and second-last carriages, are blue buttons. Pressing this button, will hold the door open longer, allowing you extra time to board.

  • Within the mobility areas, found onboard the trams, are “STOP” buttons. On approach to your station, press the “STOP” button. This will alert the driver that you may need extra time to exit and will hold the doors open for a longer period. The driver will be able to view the doors through their cameras, and make sure that you have exited safely before initiating the door lock sequence.

If travelling with small children, luggage, prams or walkers we recommend pressing this button. This way you can ensure that everyone has exited the tram.

  • Once in the mobility area on the tram, we highly recommend parking your wheelchair or scooter to face in the direction of travel. It is safer to travel parked in the same direction of travel for the rare occasions an emergency brake may need to be applied.
  • Should there be an emergency on the tram, there are emergency call points throughout the carriages (near the doors or in the mobility area). Press the emergency button and you shall be connected to our control centre.
