4 April 2018, the Gold Coast’s Commonwealth Games begins with the Opening Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at Carrara precinct.
Travelling to Opening Ceremony
If you’re travelling to the Opening Ceremony, shuttle buses will be running from Broadbeach South and the Surfers Paradise area. Traffic around these stations and on southbound trams will increase from approximately 2 hours before and 2 hours after the event. Gates to the opening ceremony will open early. Check your Opening Ceremony ticket for the times– it may be worth arriving to the venue earlier to avoid the crowds.
Tram frequency will increase to every 6 minutes during peak times. Check out our timetable below.
Stations are expected to get busy from 5pm to 7pm. From 11pm another peak travel time is anticipated as the Opening Ceremony is expected to finish around this time.
If travelling for reasons outside of going to the Opening ceremony, please consider postponing your travel, or travelling before 5pm.
