On 17 January 2021 buses will replace trams between Gold Coast University Hospital station and Southport station from 8:30pm to last service due to track maintenance.
From 18 – 21 January 2021, buses will replace trams between Gold Coast University Hospital station and Cavill Avenue station from 8:30pm to last service due to track maintenance.
Whilst bus replacement services will run according to our timetable, please allow a little extra travel time during this time. Bus replacement services will run from the light rail replacement bus stop, which can be found on the information maps on our station platforms. The replacement bus stops are indicated by a green bus icon surrounded by a black circle.
Regular maintenance of our tracks and infrastructure is an important aspect in keeping our system modern, in top condition and able to provide a smooth ride for our passengers. One aspect of regular light rail, and heavy rail maintenance, is rail grinding.
Rails of any system will gradually lose their shape due to wheel impact, acceleration and braking, and from heat, vibration and movement. Rail grinding removes the irregularities in the rail caused by these activities, extends the life of the tracks and leads to a smoother ride for passengers.
Rail grinding will take place on selected areas of our alignment from 17 – 21 January 2021. Rail grinding will commence from 9pm and will continue until the first tram service (approximately 4:30am). The rail grinders can only operate safely when there are no trams operating on the same line. To minimise disruptions to our thousands of passengers who use the G: everyday, the rail grinding needs to occur from 9pm.
Those people living close to the area may experience some noise from the grinding activities. G:link would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thanks the Gold Coast community for its understanding.
