The G: has been G:etting you around the Gold Coast for 10 years! On 20 July 2014 the G: began operations, and over the past 10 years we have celebrated many significant milestones such as:
• Welcoming locals and tourists onboard for the first time.
• The construction and opening of Stage 2 from Gold Coast University Hospital to Helensvale station in 2017.
• G:etting passengers and event participants to major Gold Coast events such as the Gold Coast Marathon, Pacific Air Show, GC500 and many more.
• The 2018 Commonwealth Games.
• Being one of the first public transport operators in the world to recover to pre-covid patronage levels.
• The construction of Stage 3 from Broadbeach south to Burleigh Heads.
Check out the below video to look back at some of our favourite moments from the past 10 years:
Keolis Downer, the operator of G:link, are proud to announce that more than 25% of our staff who started with us on day one of operations are still here with us today. Celebrating their 10th anniversaries are staff members Donna (Customer Service Officer) and Ben (Light Rail Vehicle Operator). We sat down to chat with them, to find out some of their favourite memories and highlights from the past 10 years.
For Donna, her favourite part of the job would have to be some of the passengers she has met. “I have interacted with thousands of passengers over the past 10 years, and I really enjoy being able to say hello, have chat and help them get around the Gold Coast. I also work with some incredible team members who make coming to work enjoyable every day.” she said.
For Ben, being able to provide a network that is accessible has been one of the most rewarding parts of the job. “During the first few years of operations, passengers with limited mobility would stop me to say thank you and let me know how they are now able to move around our beautiful city with much more ease,” he said. “Being part of something that has benefited thousands of people over the years is something I’m very proud of.”
As for their biggest career highlight, both Donna and Ben said that would have to be the 2018 Commonwealth Games. “Being able to transport thousands of spectators and athletes during such a busy and successful event was an unforgettable experience.”
Happy 10th Birthday G:link! Thanks for G:etting onboard Gold Coast, here’s to the next 10 years!
