Join us in the HOTA Gallery studio as we talk through the notion of the ‘found’ in art with cartonographer Sean Rafferty. Sean will unpack (pun intended) the elevation of the ordinary in relation to his own art and practice also exploring questions about identity and whether it is crystallised in the ‘artwork’ of transient, disposable media.
Sean Rafferty, a Brisbane-based artist born in Ireland in 1979, uses objects including packaging to explore their connections to people, histories and landscapes. In one of his ongoing projects Sean collects and displays fruit and vegetable cartons, inviting us to consider the influencing social, cultural, and historical context that informs their aesthetics and function.
