WHAT’S G:OING ON?

Rail Grinding – Maintaining the G:

Regular maintenance of our tracks and infrastructure is an important aspect in keeping our system modern, in top condition and able to provide a smooth ride for our passengers. One aspect of regular light rail, and heavy rail maintenance, is rail grinding.

Rails of any system will gradually lose their shape due to wheel impact, acceleration and braking, and from heat, vibration and movement. Rail grinding removes the irregularities in the rail caused by these activities, extends the life of the tracks and leads to a smoother ride for passengers.

Rail grinding will take place in select areas of our alignment from 20 – 24 July 2020. Rail grinding will take place during engineering hours; after the last tram service and will continue until the first tram service (approximately 12:30am – 4:30am). The rail grinders can only operate safely when there are no trams operating on the same line. To minimise disruptions to our thousands of passengers who use the G: everyday, the rail grinding needs to occur between our last and our first service.

Those people living close to the area may experience some noise from the grinding activities. G:link would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thanks the Gold Coast community for its understanding.
